Selby Town Hall's annual Battle of the Bands competition for young msuicians has become something of an institution. Now in its eighth year, the event has seen some truly astonishing performances from some of the finest talent the area has to offer.
The shows are always packed and are a great opportunity for budding stars to perform in a professional environment in front of a fanatical home town crowd made up entirely of their peers.
The gigs are open to anyone under the age of 20. They are alcohol free and staffed by youth workers and security guards. Tickets are just £2.50 and every audience member has the opportunity to vote for their favourite act at the end of the night and help see them through to the final.
The top two bands from each heat and the best placed runner up will make it through to June's final. The winners go on to perform a paid slot at the town's annual Family Fun Day outdoor concert on June 17th.

Selby Town Hall is an award winning arts centre, located in a prominent position at the end of Selby's main street, Gowthorpe. The intimate venue, with a seating capacity of 150, hosts world class performances from across a range of art forms including theatre, music, dance and comedy.
Built as a Methodist chapel in 1862, the venue ceased operating as a place of worship in August 1956. For several years following it was used as a tyre depot, but the building was eventually left derelict and fell into disrepair in the late 80s. In 1992, Selby Town Council bought and renovated the premises which now houses the Town Council offices as well as the main performance space and a smaller studio room.
