The incident occurred just after midnight on Saturday, September 12 in an alleyway between Buller Street and Kitchener Street, part of the town's Flaxley Road estate.

Selby CID's Detective Constable Lee Maee said, "The victim has been left shocked and upset by this incident and we are doing everything we can to support her while we investigate the full circumstances.

"I am appealing for anyone that can help the investigation to contact the police with information or get in touch with Crimestoppers and pass any information to them anonymously."

A local man, aged 18 years old, has been arrested in connection with the incident.  He has subsecuently been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
