Town centre food van told to 'burger off'

A Selby late night fast food retailer could be ordered to leave his long held pitch if a ruling by Selby District Council's licencing committee goes against him.

Tony Crombie, 60, of Wistow says his burger van has been a regular fixture in the Market place for the last twenty years.

The council are now trying to shift Mr Crombie following concerns that grease and debris left behind by his business and it's patrons are damaging the expensive York stone flags laid as part of the recent £1.3 million renaissance scheme.

A report to the committee meeting held on April 12th recommended that The Market Place be removed from the list of so-called 'consent street' and assume a new 'prohibited' status for such street traders.  It is stated in the report that all activities of the Selby Market would be unaffected by the decision.
