Tuesday, 23 February 2010 10:47

Police made eleven arrests and seized five vehicles as part of a new 16 day campaign to slash rural crime in the Selby area.

The campaign, dubbed ‘Operation Jumbo’, is targeting perpetrators of crimes such as poaching.

Officers stopped some 180 vehicles during the operation, searching some 53 people.

Operation leader and Selby District wildlife and rural crime officer, PC Kevin Kelly, said, ‘Operation Jumbo is the most successful operation to date in the Selby district. We intend to continue this level of service to our communities and continue to reinforce the message that our rural areas will not be preyed upon by criminals from our county or those bordering us.’
