Selby District Council is working to catch up on a number of areas missed for bin and recycling collections during the bad weather.

The period of snow and sub-zero temperatures combined with a complete lack of gritting and snow removal on estate roads has lead to further problems for some residents already complaining that their refuse collections were falling behind.

Collections of garden waste have been suspended since the icy blast arrived and will remain so until next Monday (20 February) to enable contractors to focus their efforts on catching up with missed refuse and recycling collections.

This morning, the council published ,via it's website, a statement in which it thanked residents for their 'understanding' during the disruption and pledged to throw additional resources and vehicles to enable 'double collections'.

Those who missed collection from the last week, from Wednesday 7 February to Friday 10 February, are asked to put their bins or recycling boxes out today.

Any recycling not collected by the end of today will roll over to next week when once again additional resources and vehicles will be deployed to deal with these double collections.
