Police looking for two men following Post Office cash burglary

Tuesday, 17 January 2012 17:04

Detectives in Selby are appealing for witnesses and information about a Post Office burglary.

The incident occurred at around 11.55pm on Monday 9 January 2012 at the East Common Post Office on Barwick Parade.

Offenders made off with a haul of cash and cigarettes after breaking into the premises.

Extensive police enquiries have been conducted in and around the Post Office during the past week.

A 48-year-old local woman has been arrested in connection with the investigation. Following questioning she was released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.

Officers are now appealing for help to trace two men who were seen at the bus stop near to the Post Office at about 11pm on Monday 9 January - less than an hour before the burglar alarm sounded at the premises.

They are both described as white, of medium build, about 5ft 9in to 6ft tall and had on dark clothing. One of the men had a scarf partially covering his face.

A car was also seen near the Post Office at around the time of the burglary, possibly blue or green in colour.

DC Cheryl Quinn, of Selby CID, said: "Locating these two men is a significant line of inquiry.

"They could be key witnesses as they were in the near vicinity of East Common Post Office within an hour of the burglary taking place.

"On the other hand they may have been involved in the offence, so therefore it is vital that they are identified and arrested as a matter of priority.

"I urge people with information that could assist the investigation to get in touch as soon as possible, particularly anyone who knows these two men or recalls seeing any suspicious individuals or vehicles in the local area at around the time of the burglary."

If you can help the investigation, please call North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2, and ask for DC Cheryl Quinn or Selby CID.

Information can also be passed on anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Please quote reference number 12120004698.
