Selby District Council successfully prosecuted the 19 after introducing a bylaw to prevent late night antisocial behaviour.

Under the bylaw, the council is able to bring prosecutions against anyone caught urinating in Selby's streets with possible penalties including fines of up to £500.

Leader of the Council, Mark Crane, said, 'Our message is simple, if you engage in anti-social behaviour then there will be serious consequences.

He added, 'These prosecutions demonstrate our commitment to tackling anti-social behaviour and keeping our district clean. This supports two of the Council's key long-term aims which are to keep communities safe and to protect the local environment'.

Those handed sentences at Selby Magistrates Court are:
