Increased town centre presence for Selby Police over holidays

Selby Online News Wednesday, 14 December 2011 18:07

Selby police will be repeating their successful Operation Private this weekend as officers take to streets to deter Christmas shoplifters and provide crime prevention advice to local people.

As well as carrying out high-visibility foot patrols, the mobile police office will be in town where shoppers can take a well-earned break and chat to their local officers.

Free crime prevention packs will be handed out along with goodie bags for children which include tips on how to stay safe, puzzles and the ever-popular cop-swap cards.

The mobile police office will be situated at Selby's Three Lakes centre between 10am and 2pm this Sunday, then outside the The Selby Post Office between 10am and 3pm on Monday.

During the evenings the team will be located in The Market Place to ensure the safety of Christmas party revellers.

PCSO Adam Wood of Selby Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "If you are out and about in Selby, please call in and meet the team, we can help with any questions you have about what's happening in your area, offer crime prevention tips, or you can call in just for a chat.

"In the meantime, make sure you follow our tips on how to keep safe this Christmas. The simplest crime prevention measures can make a big difference."
