Crowds brave rain for Christmas light switch on

Selby Online News Saturday, 03 December 2011 17:41

The crowds came out today for the switch-on of Selby's annual Christmas lights display in Selby Town Centre.

The festive display stretches throughout the town centre and includes lights in Finkle street, which have returned this year after a two year absence.

Three impressive Christmas trees have also been unveiled in the town after been sourced by Selby Town Council from Castle Howard.

The Christmas lights were switched on at 4.00 pm by Cllr. Wendy Nichols, Mayor of Selby, assisted by her grandchildren.

A Christmas Market was also held in the town's Market Place with 17 stalls selling a range of goods from giftware to fashion bags, food and cakes.

Music was provided by Barlby Foottappers band and the stars of ITV's The Choir that Rocks who performed after the switch on.
