Selby Police in Christmas roadside checks

Wednesday, 22 December 2010 21:29

Special Constables worked alongside traffic officers in the Selby area to conduct roadside checks as part of a drink drive enforcement campaign.

Eight officers, from both Selby and York, were on duty during the evening of Monday 20 December at Leeds Road in Selby and on the A19 at Brayton Church.

During the operation a total of 26 drivers were breathalysed. The team also issued nine Vehicle Defect Rectification Scheme notices, seven HORT 1s (issued to drivers who don't have their driving documents with them when they are stopped so that they can nominate a police station at which they will produce them), three fixed penalty notices and gave 11 verbal warnings.

Special Constabulary District Officer Neil Williams said: "It is very satisfying for the Special Constabulary to support the drink drive campaign. We are more than happy to give up our free time, and even in temperatures of -10oC, knowing that we are making a real difference in our community."
