Meteorologists at the Met Office issued warnings of severe weather, predicting snowfall in the region of 5 to 10 cm between midnight and 11:00 am this morning as the big freeze tightened it’s grip on the country.
Wednesday morning’s commute proved a struggle for many motorists as many routes became clogged or icy. North Yorkshire County Council’s webcams, this morning, showed the A19 at Barlby to be nearly white-over with few drivers risking their journey.
Conditions on the region’s motorways did not fair much better with reports that A1(M) and M62 motorways were down to two lanes in places.
The busses and trains also came under pressure as Arriva Yorkshire announced via it’s Facebook profile that it has made the decision to suspend virtually all it’s bus services in the county. The departure board at Selby Train Station was also looking depressing as some services were cancelled and most other trains delayed.
Current weather forecasts predict that the current snowfall is set to continue for at least the next few days with Met Office severe weather warnings still valid until at least 1800 hours tonight.
